On her 2009 CD release Woman in Black, singer/songwriter and jazz vocalist Bev Zizzy delivers fourteen powerful originals of deeply personal, insightful, often heart-wrenching but always positive stories. Although a distinct Joni Mitchell influence is apparent, Tracy Chapman also resonates in her vocal dynamics, and she can deliver a wicked Etta James cover, Bev Zizzy has evolved her own distinct blend of acoustic jazz, soul, and blues. Her stories are real; her vocally compelling delivery is intense, innovative, and passionate; and her lyrics indisputably hopeful and inspiring.

I would like to thank my husband, Stan, for a lifetime of loving patience and never ending support of my dreams – you are my rock and I am so lucky to have you; my noble son Tanner, for his magic ability to always make me smile and keep me real – you are my philosopher king and I am so proud of you; and my beautiful daughter Tess – you will forever guide and inspire me. I would like thank my incredibly talented producer, album designer, and photographer, Western Canadian Music and Juno Award Multi Nominee Jared Robinson of Nebulus Entertainment for his creative genius and the pure joy with which he took my music to new heights and made the WOMAN IN BLACK project so much fun, and Sask Music for believing in me and helping make this a reality. The September 2009 release of my debut album WOMAN IN BLACK, dedicated to the memory of my daughter Tesalyn Zizzy-Mustatia, was everything I had hoped for. It was a perfectly elegant evening that ended with a seemingly endless standing ovation from a sold out audience. I will never forget the depth of appreciation I felt. I could have stayed in that moment forever. My heart is full. Thank you.

LOOKING BACK AND LOOKING AHEAD
The creation of THE WOMAN IN BLACK really began in 2002, with the release of my first EP entitled If My Life Were a Song. Seven years later, the four tracks from the first EP, and a another two from the second EP, had evolved into the fourteen original tracks of jazz, soul and blues on THE WOMAN IN BLACK. I remain very proud of this work today, five years down the road, as the stories it shares still resonate with my audiences, even though my artistic expression has evolved much since then, as artists often do. I am now busy writing, composing, and beginning to put in place the plans for recording another CD. I am definitely getting excited, but I don't like rushing. I prefer savouring the process, and I seem to work in seven year cycles, so I'm thinking' 2016 could be the magic year for another release.
